Centre of Learning:
For millennia India has been a great centre of
learning. The renowned universities of Nalanda and Taxila provided
learning facilities not only to Indian students but also attracted scholars from countries
like Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand and China. In this connection names of
two renowned Chinese scholars - Fa Hien and Huan Tsang - are
noteworthy. While Fa Hien studied at Patliputra University, Huan
Tsang studied at Nalanda University where he later on became the Vice-Principal.
In keeping with the same tradition, India
today has a large numbers of universities with 8000 colleges affiliated to them.
They offer courses at graduate, post-graduate and doctorate levels in
various disciplines.
High Standards:
These universities and colleges maintain high academic standards and provide educational facilities charging
fees which are much more economical compared to those charged by universities in
the USA, Canada, Australia, UK etc. India is, therefore, becoming a popular
destination for higher studies particularly for countries in Asia and the
Middle East. It
has also started attracting a large number of NRI (Non-Resident Indians)
students from all parts of the world. Engineering and Medical Education

medical science, foreign students are generally not eligible for admission in
